Anchorage Youth Soccer Club

About AYSC

  CLUB OVERVIEW

Anchorage Youth Soccer Club (AYSC) was established in 1986 by Mary & Mike Norman as a 501(c)(3) organization, one of the first soccer clubs in Alaska and host of the oldest soccer tournament in the state, the Alaska Far North Invitational. AYSC prides itself on the quality of players both on and off the field, helping kids become reliable, successful and respectful human beings while growing and developing as soccer players. We are a full-service club, offering

  • US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer), a community-based training program for all athletes with intellectual, emotional, and or physical disabilities
  • Recreational league
  • Futsal league
  • Preschool academy
  • Competitive levels

Portland Timbers & Thorns Alliance
We are excited to be an Alliance Club with the MLS Portland Timbers and NWSL Portland Thorns FC organizations. As an Alliance Club, AYSC will have an exclusive partnership in Alaska, providing unprecedented opportunities for our young athletes and coaches.

This partnership will open more doors for AYSC players and the sport in Alaska, with new playing opportunities and a direct pathway for our players, both boys, and girls, to the collegiate and professional levels. Portland scouts will attend AYSC Club tryouts, and the Far North Invitational Soccer Tournament and deliver in-state coaching education and player clinics.

Equal opportunities for our girls’ and boys’ teams are important to us and one that this alliance affiliation is committed to. The Portland Timbers/Portland Thorns FC is one of only four organizations in the nation to operate both an MLS club and NWSL club – the highest level of professional soccer in our country. The Timbers also have a USL Championship team (Portland Timbers 2) and boys’ and girls’ academy programs competing in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy League, again the highest national level.

Thanks to the hard work of our directors, coaches, players, family members and volunteers, and the generous support of our sponsors AYSC is the first and currently the only club in Alaska with a professional club affiliation.

We’re excited to continue our growth with this partnership which will directly benefit our coaches and players. We will continue to wear our AYSC patch, adding that of the alliance to our existing uniforms.

AYSC players have the unique opportunity to have Timbers and Thorns Staff come to Alaska and work with players at least two times a year. Below are the two main Staff Coaches that come to Alaska and work with our players.

Keep Kids Playing
AYSC aims to support scholarships to anyone in need. It is our wish to allow any child who wants to play soccer, to play this great sport. We recognize that well-rounded, successful soccer players come from all walks of life. We are inclusive. Our club fundamentally believes that any child can develop to become an accomplished soccer player, given the right team atmosphere and coaching environment. Our coaching and administration staff is made up of independent contractors and volunteers who want the best for each player. AYSC’s primary focus is person, player and coach development. We use US Soccer’s curriculum and methods to produce well-rounded players to enjoy the game of soccer (football) while advancing their game to the next level.

AYSC focuses on educating players and coaches while maintaining a positive environment. The club promotes sportsmanship, respect, and hard work while teaching the technical, tactical, physical and psychological components of the game. Creating a positive club culture is as important to us as creating a highly skilled and competitive player.

AYSC’s method of coaching has been very successful. Our club consistently represents at the US Youth Soccer Alaska State Cup with multiple state cup champions and finalists every year. We also have been and continue to show a high presence in the Alaska Development Program ADP/ODP player, team and coach pools.
