Executive Director, 12/13/14 Girls Head Coach

Jo was born in Jefferson City, Missouri and moved to Anchorage in middle school. She played soccer at AYSC and East High School before going to college. Jo played 4 years at Creighton University (Division I) in Omaha, NE. After College she returned to Anchorage and started coaching at the Club, High School, and ODP levels. Jo holds a USSF C License, a NSCAA (USC) National Diploma, and a NSCAA (USC) Regional Goal Keeping License. Jo enjoys playing FootGolf and traveling in her free time.

Jeremy is from Palmer, AK and grew up playing soccer in AK for Mat Valley Soccer Club, CISC, TAFF, AFC, Montana State University, and Spokane Community College. Jeremy holds a USSF C License, DOC Diploma, USC Advanced National Diploma and was the 2019 & 2023 USC High School State and Far West Region Coach of the Year.  Jeremy coaches for Colony High School and Alaska ODP..  Jeremy enjoys playing FootGolf and attending concerts in his free time.

Director of Coaching, 05/06/07/08 Girls Head Coach, 15/16 Boys Head Coach

Will was in born in Mexico City, Mexico and was raised in Anchorage, Alaska. Will played soccer
competitively in Alaska and has been coaching since 2005. Will holds his USSF C License and has received
both Futsal Coach of the Year and Competitive Boys Coach of the Year honors from AYS. He is the Head Coach for the UPSL Alaska Thorns, and part of the ADP/ODP coaching staff, Head Coach for Team Alaska – Arctic Winter Games and High School Soccer. Will enjoys
fishing, barbequing with friends and family, hiking, and reading sports psychology books in his free time.
 


Ryan Wagner - [email protected] 
11/12/13 Boys Head Coach

Ryan was born in Portland, OR and grew up playing soccer competitively in OR and went on to play in college at Western Baptist College in Salem, OR. Ryan holds a USSF D License and a NSCAA (USC) Level 6 Diploma. Ryan enjoys getting outdoors, especially hunting and fishing in Alaska in his free time.

Recreational Director, 06/07/08 Boys Head Coach, 09/10/11 Boys Assistant Coach

Felipe was born in São Paulo, Brazil. Felipe played 11 years of youth soccer for EC Pinheiros-SP, High School soccer and futsal, and one year of college for FMU. Felipe has coached a variety of ages and levels including High School, Club, and ODP in Alaska. Felipe holds a USSF D license, NSCAA GK I, and Junior VI. Felipe is an outdoor explorer/enthusiast when he’s not on the soccer pitch.

Matthew was born and raised in Anchorage, AK. He began his soccer career at East Anchorage High School. He played varsity for 3 years and also played at Cook Inlet Soccer Club and ODP for 1 year. He currently works at Providence Alaska Medical Center as a Patient Care Technician and currently holds a USSF D license.

Jose Luis Bodan - [email protected]
06/07/08 Boys Assistant Coach

Jose Luis was born in Granada Nicaragua and moved to Alaska in 1999. Jose Luis came from a soccer family and grew up playing soccer in a variety of environments. He played 2nd division soccer in Nicaragua until he moved to Alaska. Jose Luis has a USSF E license and he likes to travel and explore new adventures when he’s not coaching or playing soccer.

Oscar has coached in AYSC's Competitive Program for over 8 years and holds a USSF D License.


Prentiss Pemberton - [email protected]
Girls Coach

Prentiss was born in Atlanta, GA, and grew up playing soccer competitively in GA and played through college. Prentiss has coached a variety of levels after College. Prentiss is working on his USSF Grassroots Coaching License and when he’s not coaching Prentiss likes to fish in the backcountry.


Kayla Walton - [email protected]
Goalkeeping Coach 

Kayla was born in Denver, CO, and grew up playing soccer in Juneau, AK for Juneau Soccer Club and Juneau Douglas High School before going to college. She played goalie at Texas Wesleyan University where she received her B.S. of Science in Exercise Science and a minor in Coaching. Kayla has coached at the Club and High School levels and she currently holds a USSF “F” License. Kayla enjoys any and all outdoor activities in her free time.

2011 Girls Assistant Coach

Sandi
grew up all over as her parents were in the military and she settled in East Tennessee in middle school. She started playing soccer when she was 5 years old and played all 4 years in high school, Once she became a teacher she started coaching a middle school team and did so for 6 years before moving to Alaska. She moved to Alaska in 2017 and started coaching at East High School in 2022. Sandi holds a grassroots coaching license and will pursue a USSF D license as she continues teaching and coaching at East High School.




Sean Schubert [email protected]
07/08 Girls Assistant Coach

Sean was born and raised in Indiana but escaped to Alaska after completing college.  He started playing soccer when he was 5 and has been playing the beautiful game ever since.  He started playing competitively at the club level when he was 10, which allowed him to travel both nationally and internationally for tournaments.  Sean played varsity soccer in both high school and college before moving to Alaska.  He started coaching club soccer when he was 16 and has since coached youth club, college JV, high school JV, and adults.  Sean holds a USSF F License. When he's not playing, coaching, or watching soccer, Sean enjoys writing, having published 6 books so far.

2014 Boys Head Coach

Blake is a lifelong Alaskan and was born in Anchorage, Alaska. He played competitive soccer with Cook Inlet Soccer Club and Service High School.  After high school, he moved to Arizona for college and returned back to Alaska in 2007 after earning his degree. He currently works for World Wide Technology and in his spare time enjoys time with family and kids. He currently holds a USSF Grassroots License and is working towards his USSF D License.

09/10 Girls Assistant Coach  

Justin was born in Maryland but spent the better part of his childhood in Las Vegas, NV where he played both club and high school soccer. After graduating he followed after family and joined the Air Force, where he has served for over 20 years. He has coached both adult and youth soccer teams in 4 different states in addition to Hondurans during a 6 month stay there. Justin moved to Alaska in 2021 and has a USSF Grassroots License, USC Goalkeeping Level I Diploma, USC Pre-National Diploma and is working to earn his USSF D License.

Adolf Zeman [email protected]
12/13/14 Girls Assistant Coach

Adolf was born and raised in Anchorage and graduated from East High School.  Growing up in Anchorage Adolf played competitive soccer for AYSC and continues to play recreationally as an adult.  Adolf started coaching for Boys & Girls Club Alaska in 2015 and moved over to coaching at AYSC in February 2022.  Adolf is working on his USSF Grassroots Coaching License. When not coaching soccer, Adolf enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with friends and family at their small cabin on Horseshoe Lake.

Blong was born in Thailand, been in Alaska for 20 plus years now. Blong was introduced to soccer at South Anchorage High School and went on playing soccer in the Hmong community. Blong is working on his USSF Grassroots Coaching License. When not coaching soccer Blong enjoys spending his free time with his family.

Goalkeeping Coach & Media Promoter

Byron was born and raised in Anchorage and played competitively as a goalkeeper for local clubs. 
After graduation, Byron decided to hang up his boots after many injuries and pursue a career in education. Byron currently works as a Teacher Expert in Professional Learning for ASD. He also owns his own photography business (Byron Corral Photography). He is the Media Promoter for the Club. Byron has coached the goalkeepers at Dimond High School on and off over the years and currently helps coach the Dimond Girls Varsity with Will Lucero and his twin brother Ronell. Byron holds a 11V11 Grassroots License and USC Goalkeeping Level I Diploma. When not coaching or doing media, Byron likes to spend his free time with his family and compete in endurance sports.

Kris was born in Ketchikan, AK and was raised as a Air Force Brat. Kris grew up playing competitive soccer across the country and in Italy and Germany before moving to Anchorage in high school, and on into College at the USAF Academy. Kris is currently finishing up his Grassroots License. Kris still enjoys playing soccer, and when not out on the pitch he enjoys staying active with his family. You’ll find him out on the slopes or cross-country skiing in the winter and enjoys biking and fishing in the summer.

Newton was born in Invercargill, New Zealand and played competitive club soccer in New Zealand for 17 years, including 10 seasons Papkura City F.C. Newton has coached high school soccer for ten years at James Cook High School in Otumoetai College in New Zealand. Newton has just moved to Anchorage to teach Special Education and is working on his North American coaching licenses.

Maeva Waterman - m[email protected]
12/13/14 Girls Assistant Coach 

Maeva, hailing from Chicago, dived into soccer early, excelling at club and ODP levels. Throughout high school, she dominated varsity soccer, earning all-conference and all-area accolades. Choosing a different route than her D1 college offers, Maeva represented Ireland in international soccer as well as her home city of Chicago nationally. Currently, she owns a commercial fishing boat in the western Gulf of Alaska, specializing in Salmon, Crab, and Cod. In her leisure time, Maeva enjoys skiing with her two huskies and husband, Peter.

Shelby Zimmerman- 
2015/16 Girls Assistant Coach

Shelby was born in Austin Texas and grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. She started playing soccer at the age of 4, playing club soccer for Cook Inlet Soccer Club up until High school where she played for the Dimond girls varsity team all 4 years with 2 state championships. Shelby is currently training for her collegiate soccer career. She will be playing for Trinity Valley Community College in Athens Texas. She is looking to receive her kinesiology and nutrition degree to one day help youth live a healthy lifestyle physically and mentally.

Rachel Leisher
Assistant Coach

Rachel grew up in Maryland, and moved to Alaska in 2023. Rachel played competitive soccer growing up and was a four-year member of the varsity girls soccer team in high school. Rachel played soccer for five years at Millersville University, an NCAA Division II school in Pennsylvania and served her last season as team captain. Rachel has earned her Masters in Social Work, and currently works as a hospital social worker. When not on the field, Rachel can be found exploring Alaska, hanging out with friends and exercising.
